Happy Samhain Eve !

Ok - for those of you who don't know what I am talking about - you can go to this web site to learn all about today, an ancient holy day. And for those of you who think, oh gosh - here she goes down the non-Christian road; that's not where I'm taking you. Even today's trick or treating has it's roots in pagan rituals.I've never really cared for Halloween, except when I was a kid, of course and got lots of candy. But even those days are distant memories to what kids today experience, group parties instead of all of the neighborhood trick or treating or trunk or treat, which to me seems like the laziest way to get candy, even though I suppose it's safe. ( and for you who again are freaked about the pagan vs. Christian thing? Many trunk & treats are sponsored by churches - so there!)

Whatever - with no kids I get to do what I dang well please so Hubby & I are going to a friend's house, my reiki buddy where we will no doubt have a marvelous time, practice some reiki healing like good witches and remember fondly those friends and family who are no longer with us.

Here is my Friday Fill In - hope you all have a great weekend!

1. My favorite food seasoning is salt.

2. Fred Eaglesmith(playing on the radio now) is music to my ears.

3. Lucky is something I feel every day, and blessed.

4. My relationship with friends and family is something I take very seriously.

5. Many people forget what's really important; see number 4.

6. My brand new Birkenstocks was the last thing I bought at the store.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to dinner with friends, tomorrow my plans include my first "long" training run for a half marathon and dinner with some more friends and Sunday, I want to sleep in then watch the 'Fins win!

Ten Favorite Horror Movies

Have I told you how much I hate commercials for horror movies? Well you gotta know I hate the dang movies too. So ... I will try my hand at 10 I can even think of, because really? I'd rather not think about them at all. In no particular order as I doubt I'd watch any of these again (unless so noted)

1. The Shining - I might watch it again. I did go to the hotel in Estes Park, Colorado where it was filmed. I really wanted to see a ghost but didn't. Good martinis, tho!

2. The Stand - Loved the book - I've read it at least 3 times. The TV movie was pretty good.

3. The Omen - read the book, the movie, hell the movie poster still freaks me out!

4. Halloween - the first one. I watched it in high school English class - the teacher would probably get fired for that today. At one point - I screamed so loud the principle's office called up to the classroom to make sure we were OK.

5. The Amityville Horror - when we were looking for house to buy in CT I wouldn't even go in and look at a gambro construction style house.

6. Carrie - good flick, I'd watch it again but sure as hell don't want to be 16 again.

7. Jaws - who didn't jump a mile when the head rolled out of that hole in the boat?

8. Blair Witch Project - this still freaks me out & I won't even go find a link out there on the Internet - I live in the woods for Dog's sake!

9. The Exorcist - I still switch the radio station if Tubular Bells comes on. And it just scared the crap out of me to even listen to that link - so I hope you fine readers appreciate it! : - )

10. Rosemary's Baby - I am too freaked to watch all of it - even it's abridged as hell version on TV.

On to a happier subject - did any of you catch that fabulous 'Fins game on Sunday? I love it when they beat Buffalo! Happy spooky day - tell me what your fav scary movies are!

Friday Fillins...

I'm tired (translate lazy) today so will use this great blog idea for my post today - thanks Shana!

1. Right now, I'm feeling tired, not sure why.
2. Home working on a quilt or knitting or drinking a nice glass of wine is where I want to be.
3. How does one stay motivated to run once one has signed up for a half marathon?
4. Fear of not finishing keeps me on track.
5. Please don't forget to leave a comment.
6. My friends and family and cats fill me with joy.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to quilting, tomorrow my plans include running and Sunday, I want to meet my friend for a chick flick!

Have a great weekend ya'll!!

Happy Birthday to me! Well - it was yesterday...

I had a nice day, a work mate bought me lunch and then Hubby & I went out to dinner here. I really liked it alot. The food was great, service was very nice but not over the top obnoxious and for all the food we ordered, the price was great. I don't know why we never went there before but we will be going back. They also have a bakery next door that I can not wait to try. Tonight I'm continuing the birthday celebration and meeting friends for dinner at the Sons of Italy club in town. Told you I love good food!

Ten Best Meals

This one was hard. I love love LOVE good food. And it doesn't have to be fancy or snobby - just taste good. I also enjoy the company I keep for those good meals - good friends & good companionship are more important than food. So here is my crack at my 10 Best Meals - after number one and two, in no particular order.

1. My Mom's chicken and noodles - my absolute favorite meal, hands down.

2. The first pizza hubby made me while we were dating - home made crust, home made sauce - nummm

3. Rare prime rib so soft you can cut it with a butter knife - best has been found out West

4. Good sushi

5. Most of the food we ate on our trip in Vietnam - it was fab!

6. Stone Crabs anywhere, but Joe's was pretty damn good

7. L'Anjou in Lake Worth, FLA - always great food and service

8. The meal we had at the Bee and Thistle in CT - it lived up to all the hype

9. Appetizers at Rays Boat House in Seattle - the view, the food, the company

10. Any meal with Good friends

My Oh My....

Wow - I must admit I was a doubter. For all my talk & postings, I was one of the 50% that got disgusted and went to bed. (I think about half those who said they didn't are lying). So, tonight Hubby & I will watch the game from the 7th inning on, when we got PO & went to bed but thank goodness, kept TiVo'ing the game. Can the Sox pull it off? I'll be staying up for the whole game Saturday night! (Above photo from the Boston Globe)

Big plans for the weekend to join friends at Thunder In The Valley, we are going to tail gate which should be interesting. I'll post photos next week.

On a serious note - I did watch all of the debate the other night. Something happened that I didn't quite notice until I read this blog. Fair warning - I am pro-choice so it is doubtful McCain could have said anything to sway my vote. What he said about a woman's right to choose has given me serious pause... and very serious concern. How can he ( and his running mate) profess to be someone who wants government out of everything - except for my uterus? So if you are a woman or love a woman, I invite you to think about how he addresses this in the debate. They don't have to agree with my decision on what I might do if I became pregnant or if I might lose my life if I stayed pregnant, but I ask them to respect my right to choose.

It's beautiful today and you can just start to see it's really fall from my office. So I'll end this post on a nice meditative shot...

Don't Stop Believin'...

Sort of a tie in to my earlier blog entry from today. Since I did not mention the Red Sox - I will post twice in 1 day. My office mates remind me to think positive so I will try. I'll also post two pics from our trip to Fenway, one of the view from our awesome seats & the other of the retired numbers. They had retired Johnny Peky's number 6 the day before. So cross your fingers & toes and LET'S GO RED SOX!!!

Ten Artists/Groups that Remind Me of High School....

Yikes - like I didn't feel old enough as it is! But this was kind of fun. I must admit for someone who has grown up to be what I like to consider a sophisticated (and somewhat snobby) lover of good music; folk, Indie, classical, blues, world music. My list is pretty narrow, mid-Western typical early 80's stuff. And yes - I believe I had at least one 8 track tape of every band listed below. Which is why I remember them - listening to a tape while we cruised the drag in good ol' Dillon.
Hell - I don't even listen to 80's music now! Ok - I do have one CD from a band in this group - why don't you try to guess which one?

1. Foreigner

2. AC/DC ( old stuff with Bon Scott)

3. Molly Hatchett

4. Journey

5. Kansas

6. Cheap Trick

7. The Cars

8. Van Halen

9. Asia

10. Divo

Monday Monday...

Like that title hasn't been used before! The weekend here in New England was beautiful - but we had a little drama. All my favorite sports teams? Well they didn't do so well. Dice K pitched a great game on Friday, Josh didn't do so well Saturday but the rest of team didn't help him either. I was so dang tired from staying up and watching them lose Saturday nite/Sunday morning I slept until noon on Sunday. And the 'Fins barely lost (no victory song this week) and Tony finished 11th so is 7th in the Points standings.

I was trying to sew a quilt top after a couple of martinis and got a really bad thread lock ( very bad - your machine freezes up ) and had to take it to a repair shop. There is danger in quilting when drunk!

The bees were looking for food and found all the old hives we have in the garage so when the door was open, in they came. We probably had a couple thousand bees spend the night in our garage last night so I couldn't get to the laundry room to do laundry (yea!)

But we did go to Gouveia Vineyards and enjoyed a nice bottle of rose and a beautiful view of fall. And really - if those are the only problems I have - I'm pretty damn lucky...

I say "Boston" You say "Red Sox" !

It's finally here.. Game One of the ALCS. I can not wait! I love love love October baseball. All bets are off based on season performance. I really hope that's true for us in Tampa. Someday I'll post our pics from Fenway. We had to go twice since the regularly scheduled game got rained out but I can not complain - Boston is too fun!

Fall is arriving in New England but this weekend is supposed to be nice so we might head over to a local fair to see all the four legged & two legged friends. We are so dang exciting, aren't we? Maybe that's why no one reads my blog. Ha ha!

So - go Red Sox and if the Dodgers continue to lose, that would be a good thing too!

I'm Yellow?? Really??

I'll let those of you who know me decide. That way you can reply in the comments section! Go here to find out what color you are.

You are most like:

You are Yellow
The clouds part and the smell of daffodils and daisies fill the air when you are around. Your sunny disposition cheers most, and makes others (the jealous and bitter ones) wish you'd never gotten out of bed.

Ten great/awful things about TV today

1. NESN - Love it! The best sports network - period. Although I'm not a Patriots fan, I love their baseball coverage. Jerry Remy & Don Orsillo are smart announcers & seem to have a great time calling the game.

2. TiVo - I could never watch all the sports I do without it. Love it!

3. News - hate it! I try not to start my day watching TV - it is so negative and when I only have 45 minutes in the morning to listen to something, I prefer that it not be negative stories.

4. NASCAR coverage - all the networks. The coverage is getting awful - each network picks their favorite drivers and to hell with the rest of the field. Don't they realize that is a good way to lose car sponsors? Really - they should consult me on these things.

5. Reality TV - getting bored with it although I have never been a big fan. I do watch Extreme Makeover although it does seem to exploit the folks who eventually get the house...

6. Direct TV - love it! The NFL package, XM satellite radio channels, what's not to love?

7. Series going out on DVD's - great idea! I would probably have never got hooked on Arrested Development otherwise. Great show!

8. Food Channel - used to like it but now, not so much. Where are the chefs - not just people who cook?

9. Network TV - don't watch it.

10. The Daily Show & The Colbert Report - best 2 shows on TV without a doubt.

Whew - that was hard. Anyone have any thoughts?

Why can't they win so I can get some sleep?

Man ......I'm tired. Those dang Red Sox started late & played late last night and then they went and lost- but don't tell my hubby they lost. We TiVo'd the game and stopped watching at 11:00, the score was still tied and it was the 8th inning. Because I couldn't handle the not knowing - I already checked on line and found out what happened. (My boy, Tony Stewart won at Talladega too - don't tell him we haven't watched the race yet!) But the 'Fins won! Every time they win I'm going to link 'Fins to the Dolphins fight song so you can all enjoy it - YEA!
Otherwise things are clicking along, we might get out first frost tonight, so the plants need to come in & we need to start dragging wood in for the fire. Mondays are when I go to see how much weight I lost over the last week - I'm not too optimistic tonight as we enjoyed some good food & wine this weekend. Oh well - I'm sure a scotch egg isn't over 2-3 points - what's that my food calculator? - it's 8 points - oh shit...Tonight will most likely not be good. Maybe if I run the 20 miles to get there it might be better - ya, right.
Sox play tonight at 8 - Jon Lester is pitching - go SOX!!

In Memory of Miss Lillie

Our dear friend Nose Dive lost her beloved Miss Lillie today. She was quite the cat! For those of you who have lost a pet, you know how sad it can be. So I would like to dedicate my post today to Miss Lillie.

Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.
But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined.
For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Don't Vote, No Really.....

Saw this awesome video on katydidknits and had to share. Wake up people - this is important! All Americans have the responsibility to vote - we it owe to our kids, grandchildren and their kids. And hell - since I don't have kids I'm voting to help YOUR kids!

Holy Sh*t - Itsa Bat!

For all of my millions of loyal readers, I know you are out there lurking... You may have noticed a new addition to my blog - Itsa, my virtual pet bat. I have this addition thanks to my cyber pal, June at Bye Bye Pie ( which happens to be my favorite blog - she is sooooooo funny). We had bats visit us several times this summer, in the house. All very exciting, especially for the cats, most notably Casey who tried to catch every one - you go girl!
Anyhow - no time to write more - you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the exciting Boston pics. Does anyone think the Sox have a chance against the Angels? Let me know what you think ! ( A desperate attempt to get anyone to leave a comment - don't make me go political, that could get ugly!)
